It's always nice when today's news and views dovetail neatly with yesterday's blog.
For one thing, I stuck tongue in cheek to suggest that, while assessing blame should be left to a later time, there might be some inclination on the part of the public, if not of their duly unelected corporations, to think about the real need for regulation. Steven Pearlstein makes this point very convincingly today (and without tongue in cheek), in "Time for Industry to End its War on Regulation."
I had also mentioned the possibility that some politicians would stop calling for unlimited oil drilling, noting that Sarah Palin had in fact ceased (presumably, only temporarily) taking a pause in order to suggest that Democrats (but not Republicans!) received too much in the way of political contributions from big oil. On that question and a broader assessment of Palin, I recommend Ruth Marcus's "Sarah Palin's Fact-Free Commentary..." today.

Thanks. Hadn't seen the Marcus commentary. Interesting.
