Since Morning Fog so often addresses the current absence of bipartisanship in U.S. politics, I want to make Senator Susan Collins's recent upbeat op-ed on that topic the centerpiece of this post, without a lot of comment from me. Please read it!
Apart from her curious formulation about "predictions" of the disappearance of the political center (does she really think it's just predictions at this point? - seems to me it's a fait accompli), it's a good piece, otherwise. I like her phrase "the sensible middle," and the idea that those who favor bipartisanship and cooperation have to work just as hard to foster those ways of working as the extreme partisans work to destroy them.
