Not very long ago I noted that drones are one of several military technologies that seem to got out of control in irresponsible civilian hands (See "Burn, Baby, Burn.")
It's good to hear that the FAA is proposing a $1.9 million fine against the firm SkyPan, which stands accused of making numerous unauthorized drone flights over Chicago and New York. SkyPan has made a business of offering drone photography to businesses. It's not clear that in the end, the company will end up paying even a penny, but at least the FAA has acted, and put other offenders on notice.
I applaud the move but fear the government has moved much too slowly in trying to control and regulate drones.
