A classic bit of handed-down wisdom, usually attributed to one's mother, is "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all." It's so ingrained in our culture that even though I can't remember my own mother ever giving me such advice (she herself was not inclined to dreaming up "nice things" to say), I suspect it's part of the reason I haven't written more about our current President than I have done.
But I've given it some thought, and I've been trying to discern the positives about the ONE.
And I think I have found one.
It's nice that he doesn't seek to hide his faults. Far from it. Every day, he provides us new and incontrovertible evidence that he is, at various times or at the same time, craven, ignorant, bigoted, xenophobic, petulant, incompetent, or dangerously out of touch with reality and truth. The latest such self-revelation is his reported and well confirmed reference to "shithole" countries.
This openness is a trait worth commending. It saves us a great deal of trouble. We really don't need to waste time reading books like Fire and Fury. Anyone who didn't know, at least a year ago, everything this book supposedly "reveals," just wasn't paying attention to Trump the candidate or Trump the elected President.
There's more nice stuff to be said about Trump. For example, it's also nice that he apparently just can't stop himself from revealing his true nature, even though he so frequently regrets what he has said and attempts to walk it back afterward. Compare this kind of inadvertent self-revelation to the far more controlled utterances of maundering Mitch McConnell or the sinister stony silence of Mike Pence, and I'm sure we can all see what a blessing we have in Trump.
Since the topic of immigration has arisen, I'll just note that Trump's preference for having more Norwegian immigrants and fewer from those "shithole countries," contains an inner contradiction (no surprise there, huh?). To wit: It's only the desperate folks who come from poor countries who might even want to immigrate here now. Norwegians and most of those other more economically successful nationalities that Donald prefers can see, even if some of us here at home cannot, that we have a shithole President who is turning us into a shithole country. And they want no part of it.
Ah. Your observations are so terribly sad. So terribly true.

Amen to all that.
